Scenic Tsar, launched in 2013, was the first ‘new-build’ ship to be launched onto Russia’s waterways for over 25 years. It is also the first boutique ‘small’ ship to join our ever-growing fleet of luxury vessels. There are just over one hundred guests on board, so you get a real sense of space, accompanied by an intimate atmosphere. Becoming the first ‘small’ ship to join our luxury Space-Ship dynasty, Scenic Tsar has been exclusively developed to negotiate the waterways of Russia. This boutique vessel is the first new ship to enter service in the country for twenty-five years, making it something of a revolution in the world of luxury river cruises. While its petite proportions enable it to negotiate the meandering waters of the Volga, Europe’s longest river, don’t let Scenic Tsar fool you. Within its sleek interior, this unique Space-Ship is spacious and welcoming, complete with all of the luxurious flourishes you’ve come to expect from Scenic, and a whole host of cutting-edge features — from complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, to satellite television and innovative en-suite bathroom facilities.

Partnerships are central to our ethos. Our Cherish the Planet program reinforces our commitment to environmentally responsible tourism and protecting the places and communities we visit.

We aim to leave as small a footprint as possible while proudly forming positive and enriching associations with the communities we visit.

Created in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), our Cherish the Planet program has six key focus areas, each with defined priorities and established benchmarks for improvement.
 

Addressing CO2 Emissions

We are committed to designing and operating our ships in an efficient and more sustainable way, thereby reducing the impact of fuel consumption on the environment. We have engaged the services of Ecollective, an independent third-party organization, to calculate the average carbon footprint of our guests and assist in setting achievable targets.

Advocate, Health, Safety & Security

We have created an engaging workplace that supports the well-being of our staff by prioritizing health and safety. Moreover, we've implemented staff training through Scenic Group Academy. Via periodic training offered in our e-learning platform, we can ensure every staff member is fully immersed in our Cherish the Planet ethos.
 

Sourcing Sustainably

Where feasible or possible, fresh produce is sourced from local markets and the on board herb garden (available on selected ships). Our goal is to source sustainably to support the communities we visit and avoid the extensive footprint of food storage and transportation. We have developed sustainable procurement guidelines to ensure all staff and stakeholders are compliant.
 

Reducing our Waste

As we constantly look at new ways to reduce our waste, we are proud to have been working to eliminate single-use plastics on board – all our ships are already over 95% single-use guest plastic free, which so far means we have removed more than 2 million* plastic bottles from use.
